McCrum’s Furniture Showroom Renovation

McCrum’s wished to update their showroom to reflect a new generation of ownership; infusing the space with modernity, but still recognizing the 40 year history of the brand. One of our challenges was creating a refresh without major changes to the base building. Our approach was to create a variety of art installations from either salvaged materials demolished during the renovation (such as the acrylic balusters from the existing mezzanine guardrail) or waste materials that result from the manufacturing process of the products that they carry.

The outcome is an entrance chandelier sculpture handmade from punched pieces of metal leftover from the fabrication of architectural walls suspended from reclaimed acrylic balusters. A vertical layered wood sculpture behind reception made from veneers scraps from the production of casegoods with a geometry responding to the chandelier above; this is attached to architectural wall panels at the front and only steel frames as it wraps around the reception corner showcasing the structural integrity of the furniture wall system.  The library mimics the vertical wood veneer at the front with strips of a wool textile that McCrum’s carries with swatches attached in flags at the ends allowing clients to see and touch the materials library offering in a simple and uncluttered way.
